Wellington Place, Toxteth

Design and the construction of the former Wellington Road School building being restored and converted into a residential development consisting of 30, two and three bedroom apartments. To provide additional accommodation within the former school building.  The roof of the building which originally formed the playground for the school was removed and a lightweight steel and timber structure was formed to provide additional two storey mezzanine apartments. The external appearance of the extension was formed in zinc cladding with agreement with the local planning authority who wished for a clear contrast with the original brick structure. The external appearance of the new building retained many of the original features including recreating the ornate metal hand railing and balustrading.

A second element of the main project consisted of the design and the construction of 10 houses constructed traditionally in masonry brick and block construction, with an mix of external materials such as render and zinc to break the large mass of brickwork from the neighbouring building.

The development was completed in a mix of hard and soft landscaping inclusive of residents car parking to compliment the surrounding community landscape.
