Bardsley have 'Skilled Pledged' with the Learning & Skills Council

Bardsley is demonstrating its commitment to actively encouraging and supporting our employees to gain the skills and qualifications that will support their future employability and meet the needs of our business by signing the LSC Skills Pledge.

It is recognised that in order for the UK economy to compete with other advanced economies such as those of India and China, the UK will have to invest in more skills. There is a direct relationship between skills, productivity and employment and, unless we substantially improve the UK skills base, UK businesses will find it increasingly more aggressively competitive in the global economy and combating this will require a commitment to investing and improving the skills of our workforce.

With this in mind, we have for sometime been ‘upskilling’ and qualifying our site based staff. This is now expanding to our office based employees too. Every individual who does not currently hold a vocational related qualification (NVQ) will be offered the opportunity to gain one.

Bardsley employ a number of trade apprentices who will learn their trade both in a practical and classroom environment in order to gain a high level of professional skills.

Our apprentices learn skills in a practical way on the job, supported by a mentor.  Some will learn skills within one specialist field such as carpentry, whilst our Building Maintenance Operatives learn a variety of skills from carpentry to bricklaying, and plastering to plumbing.

In addition you will study for a NVQ Level 2 on a part time basis.

In order to be considered you will need to:

• Demonstrate commitment and genuine willingness to learn
• Live locally to where the vacancy is
• Be honest and trustworthy
• Be disciplined and organised in your work

You will also need to complete the Construction Skills Assessment Test.  Further details of this can be found on the following website: www.bconstructive.co.uk.

The length of the apprenticeship scheme depends on the qualification undertaken.  When you have successfully completed your apprenticeship we may be able to offer you a permanent role.
