Pupils at Alder Grange Perform Sod Cutting Ceremony on New £8 Million Sixth Form College.

Construction work on a new state-of-the-art £8m Sixth Form at Alder Grange Community and Technology School in Rawtenstall, Lancashire has begun.
The start of the project has been marked with a special sod-cutting ceremony which involved pupils, staff and the construction team.
The state-of-the-art facility will cater for 300 students and will include: science laboratories; a media studio and performance space; an industry standard catering kitchen; nursery and creche facilities for child development students, plus ICT and library facilities.
Work has been held up by the cold snap at the start of 2010 but now work on site is well underway. The build is expected to last for 12 months. The school's first Sixth Form intake will be housed in temporary accommodation until the construction process is complete.
Alder Grange head of school David Hampson said: "Over the past few years there have been lots of meetings and plans where the Sixth Form was just a dream — now it is becoming a reality and it is very exciting for everyone involved.
"We already have a number of students who have applied to go to the Sixth Form — they are particularly delighted to see work getting under way.
"The Sixth Form will add something completely different for post 16 students in Rossendale and is one of the most positive education developments in the area for many years.
"The school will offer a specifically developed curriculum, which will meet needs of students — one that is not offered elsewhere in the valley. This will mean fewer students having to travel out of the valley to colleges in Bury, Burnley and Accrington."
