WWT/CHSI North West White Van Roadshow

Bardsley Blackburn Beacon Centre project paid host to the Working Well Together WWT/CHSI Haydock Group – NW 'White-Van' Road show on the 20th May 2011. This was part of the two-week safety tour of major construction sites in the region.

This event is about raising health & safety awareness amongst the industry's workforce, with the aim to reduce accidents and fatalities in our industry. This one day event was introduced by Bardsley's Health & Safety Director, Mr John Thorley (CHSI committee member) who talked about the fatality rate in the industry and how falls from height remain the biggest killer in the construction industry. This was followed by the showing of the Jason Anker Live DVD, a 'tool box talk' on working at height by Speedy Hire, practical demonstrations on the safe use of mobile access equipment by representatives of Turner Access and Youngman and concluded with a thought inspiring talk on silica dust by Brandon UK.

Each session finished by reminding workers of the number of fatalities in the industry within the North West in 2009/10 and the need to remain vigilant and work safely. All workers then completed a feedback form and received a 'Goodie Bag'. Thanks go to the CHSI partners, HSE, Speedy Hire, Youngman, Brandon UK and Turner Access. A big thank you goes to Lea Whitehurst and his team for hosting the event. 135 workers including students from Blackburn College attended this one day event.
