High Five for White Van Roadshow

Bardsley paid host to the Working Well Together WWT/CHSI Haydock Group – NW 'White-Van' Roadshow on the 21st May. This was part of the two-week safety tour of major construction sites in the region. The event is about raising health and safety awareness amongst the industry's workforce, with the aim to reduce accidents and fatalities in our industry. This one day event was introduced by Bardsley's Health & Safety Director Mr John Thorley and was followed by the showing of the HSE's 'High 5' DVD, practical demonstration on the safe use of power tools by representatives of Makita (UK) Ltd and concluded with a practical demonstration of the Beta Guard mobile access tower by Turner Access.
Each session finished by reminding workers of the number of fatalities in the industry within the North West in 2008/9 and the need to remain vigilant and work safely. All workers then completed a feedback form and received a 'Goodie Bag'. Thanks go to the CHSI partners, HSE, Speedy Hire, Makita and Turner Access.
The White Van Roadshow has been organised as part of the Working Well Together initiative – a partnership between HSE and the construction industry – which aims to improve health and safety in the sector.
HSE Inspector Alan Pojur said: "We'll be spending a day at each site to meet as many construction workers as possible, and remind them of the dangers they face every day."
More information on the initiative is available at www.wwt.uk.com.
