The Hive, Manchester. A landmark 'Green' building is handed over.

Argent Group PLC and Manchester City Council have announced the practical completion of their joint venture development, The Hive, located in the heart of Manchester's Northern Quarter. The landmark building provides 78,000sqft of cutting edge office space, and is a new hub for business in this unique part of the city.
Argent created The Hive to tap into the inspirational spirit of the Northern Quarter, helping to continue the ongoing regeneration, and setting a new standard for future developments in the area.
Designed by the Manchester office of international architecture and design practice, HKR Architects, the stunning design has raised the bar for sustainable innovation by using the latest in green technology, an important component of modern business. The building has received a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating for its use of green planting on the rooftops, natural ventilation and energy efficient lighting system.
The building has received a grade 'B' energy performance rating and with only one building in the UK having received an 'A' rating, this is further evidence of The Hive's significant range of green credentials.
Oliver Butler, project manager at Argent Group PLC has worked closely with the project since its inception in 2007. "Seeing the finished product marks an incredible journey for all those involved in the delivery of this fantastic development. The vision was to create a landmark building for the Northern Quarter, and to help enhance the community with a great new facility. We are confident that The Hive will continue to attract a diverse range of businesses and generate further investment into this part of the city."
Built by Bardsley, the building represents the company's ethos of employing a team of directly employed, committed and talented people, all of whom have raised the bar in terms of their professional approach to overcoming many difficulties associated with construction in the heart of a busy city centre.
Wayne Bardsley, chairman of Bardsley said: "We were obviously delighted to create such an innovative and striking building that epitomises the ongoing transformation of Manchester as a city and the Northern Quarter in particular.
"The Hive is a vision of the future of construction and the significantly reduced environmental impact it has on the city is something to aspire to with all future building projects."
